Ardent Cannabis – Nova – Decarboxylator Review
What Problem Does a Decarboxylator Solve?
Did you know cannabis by itself has little to know psychoactive properties? That’s right, it needs to be heated first. That’s why most people smoke cannabis, to heat it up to a point where it decarboxylates and unlocks all the psychoactive benefits. The heating process “decarbing” unlocks THCA and turns it into THC which our body’s CB receptors can accept and use. Think of heat as the key that unlocks the benefits of the cannabis plant for humans.
Well, what if you don’t want to smoke cannabis but still want the benefits? Or what if you already smoke or vaporize cannabis flower but you want the potency of your flower increased? Then you are ready for a high-quality decarboxylation device.
Is The Nova Perfect?
It’s close! Read on and I will share with you three things I love and one thing I hate about The Nova, but first there are few things you need to know.
The Value Proposition
The Nova from Ardent Cannabis activates or unlocks the THC and CBD in your cannabis flower so that it is more optimized, potent, and bioavailable. This is particularly important if you are ingesting your cannabis as a medical marijuana patient, but every cannabis enthusiast can benefit from decarbed flower, even if you are using a vaporizer.
If you don’t heat or sufficiently decarboxylate your raw cannabis flower you are potentially missing a large part, perhaps even the majority of the benefit of the active ingredients of the plant. In short, the Nova device makes each gram of flower way more potent so you don’t have to use as much flower to get your desired outcome.

Does The Heat Destroy The Terpene Profile of the Cannabis Flower?
Terpenes are the compounds of the plant that give a plant its smell or scent. In addition to the fragrance of the plant scientists are beginning to see other health benefits from terpenes. Cannabinoids like THC and CBD together with the terpenes produce an entourage effect that allows the whole of the plant to be greater than the sum of its parts. This is where the Nova shines. The Nova decarboxylates at the lowest possible temperature to maintain the terpene profile of the plant so you can enjoy the maximum benefit possible.
One aspect of the Nova that is frequently overlooked is the benefit of sterilization. The heating action of the Nova decarboxylation device is hot enough to kill spores and microbes that could be potentially hazardous to your health. When trying to enjoy the plant for medicinal purposes the last thing you want to do is introduce toxic spores and microbes like salmonella into your body. Unfortunately, it is all too common to find disgusting things on your flower. If you haven’t done so already, bring a magnifying glass with you to your local dispensary and you will be surprised what you might find when you get down to a granular scale, the most common sight is insect feces, yuck!
Can’t I Just Decarb Cannabis In The Oven For Free?
This is a fair question. Many people that don’t fully understand the benefit of a special purpose decarboxylation device might say, “I can just put this in my oven and activate it. I mean, doesn’t the oven method work?” That is like saying I can cook an egg on the hood of my car on a hot day instead of a frying pan. The difference between heating (decarboxylating) your cannabis flower in the oven versus in a specialized, purpose-built device like The Nova is the difference between using a sword or a scalpel.
“Wait, what!? I don’t understand that sword or scalpel analogy.”
Stick with me. If you have a hangnail would you rather have a professional use a sword to hack it out or the precise, small, and sharp edge of a scalpel that lends itself to the fine motor skills of the human hand?
The Nova is specifically built, and finely-honed to be your scalpel. The Nova does one thing perfectly, it activates your cannabis and makes it optimally useful for consumption in the human body.
Since cannabis flower is quite expensive it makes sense to try to stretch your dollar as far as possible to get the most out of it. If this was any other flower or herb the value proposition wouldn’t be there but with the market price of cannabis around $1600 per pound (.45 kg) or $100 per ounce investing in a high-quality decarboxylation device like the Nova makes sense to those who have run the numbers.
Who is The Nova Right For?
The ideal person the Nova is right for is the person that is committed to high-quality, activated flower that maintains the best part of the plant. If you are regularly ingesting flower as a medical patient or if you are vaporizing or smoking the flower regularly, a precision decarboxylation device is a great tool and one that will pay for itself quickly as you will have to purchase way less flower to get the same desired outcome.
Who is the Nova NOT Right For?
If you are not regularly medicating orally or through vaporizing/ smoking, it may not make sense financially to invest in a decarboxylation device.
The Three Things I Love And The One Thing I Hate About The Ardent Nova DecarboxylatorLOVE: It’s ridiculously easy to use, you throw your flower into the canister, put the top on and press the power button. That’s it you are done. You don’t have to grind your flower, you don’t have to check if it’s burning in the oven. The Nova’s sensors know exactly how to decarb the flower perfectly. LOVE: The Nova has opened up a lot of fun ways to integrate cannabis into my life that I just wouldn’t have considered before. I never would have made an infused olive oil or brownie bites, but I am glad I have and so are my friends and family. LOVE: The savings. Ok, if you have not done so already use the calculator above to calculate how much you’ll save by investing in a Nova. There are few things in this world that pay for themselves, thankfully the Nova is one of them. The savings come from the fact that your flower is twice as potent after being run through the Nova, so you only need to buy half as much as you normally would. HATE: At first the Nova’s size was plenty for me, in fact I couldn’t imagine filling the whole canister, but over time I decarbed more and larger batches, so the Nova started to seem small. Thankfully Ardent just solved this problem by introducing the Ardent FX, which is substantially larger. You can read our review of the Ardent FX here.
